PLUG

После SERVER — ещё один коридор и почти пустая комната. В стене — розетка, к ней тянется толстый кабель, который кормит весь мир. На полу у их ног — всё тот же тостер из home sweet.

Взрослые обычно говорят: «Не трогай провода». Здесь наоборот: им предлагают попробовать.

Как они перезагружают мир

Сначала они просто выдёргивают вилку мира из розетки. Свет гаснет, вентиляторы останавливаются, уведомления перестают мигать даже в памяти.

несколько секунд слышно только, как тостер остывает;
Стена где-то далеко наконец полностью замолкает;
ничто никуда не торопится загрузиться обратно.

И тогда один из них говорит вслух то, о чём все уже подумали: «А если вместо этой вилки воткнуть наш тостер?»

Они вставляют вилку тостера в ту же розетку, тянут за большой выключатель и наблюдают, как мир стартует заново — уже через их маленький, смешной, но теперь главный домашний прибор.

Главный выключатель

Большой рубильник с надписью «ВСЁ». Если потянуть его не до конца, можно выключить только новости, только чаты или только один внутренний голос, который громче всех остальных.

Тостер в сети

Раньше он просто поджаривал хлеб. Теперь через него проходит весь стартовый ток мира. Они бросают внутрь бумажки со словами «страх», «злость», «усталость» и ждут всплытия — как тоста, только уже в виде идей и чувств, с которыми можно справиться.

Следы прошлых перезапусков

Вокруг розетки — следы от сотен включений и выключений. Мир явно перезапускали и до них. Просто раньше никто не додумывался воткнуть туда свой тостер.

PLUG

After SERVER there is another corridor and an almost empty room. In the wall there is a socket, a thick cable feeding the whole world. On the floor by their feet lies the same toaster from home sweet.

Adults usually say: “Don’t touch the wires.” Here it’s the opposite: they are invited to try.

How they reboot the world

First they simply pull the world’s plug out of the socket. The lights go off, fans stop spinning, notifications stop blinking even in their memory.

for a few seconds you can only hear the toaster cooling down;
somewhere far away the Wall finally goes completely silent;
nothing is in a hurry to boot back up.

Then one of them says what they were all already thinking: “What if we plug our toaster in instead?”

They push the toaster’s plug into the same socket, pull the big switch and watch the world start again — now through their small, funny, but suddenly central piece of home hardware.

Main switch

A big lever labelled “EVERYTHING”. If you pull it only halfway, you can turn off just the news, just the chats, or just one inner voice that happens to be louder than the rest.

Toaster in the loop

It used to only toast bread. Now all the starting current of the world goes through it. They drop in little pieces of paper saying “fear”, “anger”, “exhaustion” and wait for them to pop up — like toast, only as feelings and ideas they can handle.

Traces of earlier reboots

Around the socket you can see marks of hundreds of plugs and unplugs. Clearly the world has been rebooted before. It’s just that no one thought of plugging in their own toaster until now.
